What are you doing to take care of your skin? Have you considered rejuvenation options such as facials, peels, or laser treatments to reverse damage and get back your youthful appearance? Regular, doctor-prescribed skin treatments will limit the damage to your skin due to external elements, such as sun and pollution, by protecting and reversing the signs of aging. Have you been noticing textural changes, fine lines and wrinkles, red and brown spots or sagging due to loss of elasticity? Here in Colorado, we are exposed to higher than average ultraviolet radiation due to the high elevation and many days of sunshine. Here, your skin is more likely to show signs of aging at a younger age. When we are young, the body can often repair some visible damage. However, as we enter our 30s, one’s body cannot keep up with the repair process, collagen and elastin are lost and visible signs of aging skin start to appear.
The good news is that you have many options to address these changes. At FacesFirst in Denver and Lone Tree, we specialize in treating the face and can advise you on just the right course of action to maintain a healthy, natural glow. A daily skin care regimen should be designed to protect and moisturize. Facials, dermabrasion and our Hydrafacial can help maintain the health of your skin. More advanced peels, lasers and light therapy may be chosen to reverse skin damage as well. We offer all options at FacesFirst’s Denver and Lone Tree locations.

Skin rejuvenation can be divided into three different categories—light, medium and deep treatments.
1. Light treatments have no downtime, are milder and need to be maintained to achieve measurable results.
- Aesthetician treatments: facials, microdermabrasion, Hydrafacial, dermaplaning
- Chemical peels: light TCA peels, Jessner’s Peel, glycolic acid peels, melanage peel
- Laser and light therapy: IPL photofacial, Pixel Laser, NIR Skin tightening
2. Medium treatments have some balance between effective results and minimal downtime.
- Chemical peels: combination TCA/Jessner’s Peels, Melanage Peel
- Laser and light: Laser 360 combination laser treatments, Fractionated CO2 laser
3. Deep treatments can have more dramatic change but may have more downtime and some risks.
- Chemical peels: Deeper TCA peels
- Lasers: Ablative CO2 laser treatment

Skin rejuvenation means the overall improvement in the appearance of the skin by achieving a refreshed skin appearance and restoring elasticity. While these procedures do not have the same effect as surgery, they can often prolong the time until a facelift or other surgery is needed. Good skin care can take years off of your appearance.
To clarify, surgery takes away “sags and bags” (laxity) while skin rejuvenation takes away wrinkles, red dots and age spots. Plus, it improves the color, texture and tone of the skin. Today, there are a wide variety of techniques available that allow us to tailor a skin rejuvenation program specifically designed for you – to match your skin type, lifestyle and desires. In customizing a skin rejuvenation program to meet an individual’s needs, many factors must be considered. Among these are type of skin, general health and your lifestyle. Each type of skin rejuvenation technique varies with the length of recovery time necessary, the frequency with which they need to be repeated and the length of time the results last. In order to understand how skin rejuvenation techniques work, it is essential to understand the aging process. As we age, a number of things happen. Our skin loses moisture and elasticity, fat redistributes itself, muscles and skin become more lax and bones actually start to resorb. Wrinkles are the first signs of this aging process. Skin folds or “bags” are the more advanced signs, which actually require removal of the excess skin.
During the aging process, the top layer of the skin (stratum corneum), which is a layer of dead skin cells, builds up and thickens. When this happens, our skin can develop a sallow look and small “expression lines” can develop. In addition, there is a gradual breakdown of the collagen and elastic fibers in the deeper layers of the skin. Sun exposure or “photoaging” can dramatically increase the breakdown of elastic tissues and lead to an increase in skin wrinkling. It is important to know that 90% of one’s aging skin is environmental (due to sun, smoke or pollution) and only 10% is genetic!
It is helpful to consider rejuvenation options as different steps on a ladder, where mild treatments are lower on the ladder and more aggressive treatments are higher on the ladder. It starts with your daily skin care regimen and lifestyle, includes many office-based treatments with little downtime and extends to more aggressive peels and laser therapy and even surgery.
