Minimally Invasive Facelift with Renuvion Skin Tightening
Although a facelift is the gold standard in facial rejuvenation and will often yield the best results, some patients do not wish to undergo surgery or are not yet ready for a deep-plane facelift. If you are one of those patients, the Renuvion seamless plasma lift is a great alternative that can restore your youthful beauty.
What is Renuvion?
Renuvion is an innovative technology that comes from Apyx Medical Corporation, formerly known as Bovie Medical. If the name Bovie sounds familiar, it’s because their company used to be the most well-known producer of electrocautery surgical devices. After seeing the advanced science and impressive results of Renuvion and J-Plasma, they bought the company and rebranded the Renuvion name. At FacesFirst, we are also impressed by the incredible results of our seamless plasma lift and know our patients can trust this science-backed technology.
How Does the Renuvion Plasma Lift Work?
Renuvion (our seamless lift) is the only FDA-cleared device for the treatment of loose skin on the neck and chin. It is also cleared for the treatment of moderate to severe wrinkles. The Renuvion device is equipped with a tank of helium gas connected to a small handpiece equipped with radiofrequency energy. Helium gas is used to generate plasma energy (also called electromagnetic energy or heat energy), similar to the energy derived from the sun.
The helium plasma gas, in combination with radiofrequency energy (RF), heats collagen fibers in the skin, stimulating a collagen-rebuilding process called neocollagenesis. Collagen is a protein in the skin that gives it elasticity and a firm texture. As collagen rebuilds and connective tissues are tightened, loose skin is lifted, and wrinkles are smoothed as the skin plumps up. The helium plasma gas helps deliver RF precisely to these collagen fibers and it has a cooling effect so that the surrounding tissues are not damaged by RF-generated heat.
What to Expect During Plasma Lift Treatment
Renuvion treatment is often done in combination with a mini lift or liposuction. This treatment is performed in-office under local anesthesia, so patients do not have to undergo deep sedation. After the treatment area is numbed, a small incision is made, and a wand is inserted under the skin. This wand delivers helium plasma and RF directly to the collagen fibers in the deep layers of the skin. The entire procedure takes about an hour and patients generally find it unpainful.
Plasma Lift Recovery
The benefit of the minimally invasive plasma lift is that there is minimal recovery time. Patients often tell us that their face feels tight after the procedure, but discomfort can be alleviated with over-the-counter pain medication. Most patients can return to work and resume almost all their normal activities in one week or less. We recommend that you wait two weeks to resume strenuous exercise. Tightened skin and a more youthful appearance can be seen within a few weeks and will continue to improve as collagen rebuilds and skin tightens.
Who Can Benefit from a Plasma Lift?
Renuvion is safe for all skin types and skin tones. The best results are seen among younger people (mid-40s or younger) who see fullness and mild laxity (loose skin) in their faces but are not yet ready for a full deep plane facelift. A consultation with Dr. Cote is necessary to determine whether you can achieve your desired results with a plasma lift or need a deep plane facelift. We will work with you to develop the best treatment plan that meets your goals and comfort level.
